Things Get a Little Messy When the Stones Come Back at You

The pot has been boiling for months, you know the story, school yard bully throwing stones and tossing insults to other kids on the playground that is the worldwide web. Let me be clear, all of the players in this little dust-up are people I consider friends so with that said… what boiled to the surface has been in the soup for a while and many on the sidelines know it even if they would never say it.

If you run a Google search of recent comments I’ve posted on many traffic exchange related blogs you will discover that I am an advocate of letting people run their own businesses and furthermore recognizing that there are many ways to do so successfully. Social surfing vs old school non-social surfing, social sites vs non-social sites, owner provided customer support vs staff provided customer support, script A vs script B… nanner, nanner, nanner… how about try to make a few pennies a day vs why not a few hundred, building a chat presence vs building a list, and it goes on and on and on and on!  The truth is that there are many examples of successful sites and online business owners representative of each of these models and many more.

The truth is there has been a fair amount of “bullying” going on in conference rooms and on blogs over the past few months and the people being kicked around have many successes to their credit, they are proven leaders have thousands of customers and loyal followers. This post is not written to plead their case, feel sorry for them, or start picking sides… it’s not my style. I am merely an observer like most of you with an opinion that I am not afraid to express.

Sooner or later every bully get’s exposed on the play ground it’s an unwritten law of the universe. When it happens you recognize it immediately, like that famous scene from the movie “A Christmas Story” when Ralphie finally decides he has had enough. There is allot of sensitivity to school yard bullying these days so I hope you can appreciate my humor in sharing this video clip before I share my points.

Now that you have had a little laugh you can appreciate what I have to say in all seriousness because it is a serious subject.

People who live in glass houses should never throw stones… that is not new and deep down inside we know this is great advice. The lesson becomes all too real and may even hurt when we realize that everyone of us lives in a glass house… yep all of us.

The next time you or I declare that we have the authority to decide what is the right way or the wrong way to run a business or assume the authority to elevate saints and cast out demons, we must recognize that we are serving no one and ultimately dis-serving ourselves. Remember the bully always get’s exposed in the end!

I recently spent a great evening at my high school reunion (never mind which year) and the bullies were no where to be found… seriously, they were no where! Bullies spend four years ruling their universe and making others lives miserable and then simply fade away. It is the nerds, the geeks, the respectful ones, the goody two shoes that grow up to be Bill Gates or Meg Whitman, Ghandi or Mother Teresa, the mentor or the teacher. They live rich lives… get all of the pretty girls and handsome guys… and rule their universe for a lifetime. Something to think about!

So I encourage you when given the choice to respect the freewill of others, to honor diversity that is the essence of community, to celebrate individuality, or to criticize others, make broad and damning statements, or cast other stones… chose the high road, the one that provides value for others and is grounded in truth.

Richard Branson Another Remarkable Chapter

If you are a regular reader of my blog you may have seen prior post and videos I have shared featuring Sir Richard Branson. I am a great admirer of his entrepreneurial spirit and his accomplishments as the original Maverick Entrepreneur.

Richard Branson started from nothing and since his late teens has taken the risk and made necessary sacrifices to emerge as one of the most innovative and wealthy self starters of all time. He has become a billionaire as a result of hard work coupled with creativity and a flare that has made him very popular and love around the world. Along the way he has given away millions and helped thousands of people better their lives. Richard Branson’s causes are as big as his vision and imagination including ending poverty, saving the environment, furthering space exploration, and much more.

His home will be rebuilt and according to Mr. Branson… even better than before. The true loss was the journals, photographs, and other irreplaceable documents which chronicled the career that has spanned many decades, cultures, and industries. By God’s grace no one was injured and for that all of us as human beings can collectively extend our gratitude to everyone involved. I wanted to pause for a moment and share a few thoughts to consider.

Who is Richard Branson?

Born in 1950 and educated at Stowe School were he founded his first venture Student magazine at the age of sixteen.

In 1970 Branson founded Virgin as a mail order record retailer, and shortly after opened a record shop on Oxford Street in the UK. In 1972 he built a recording studio in Oxfordshire where the first Virgin artist, Mike Oldfield, recorded ‘Tubular Bells’.

Get Your Internet Markeiting Questions Answered Live

I previously shared that I would regularly host Q&A sessions where I would answer questions posted at Answers Junciton. I hosted the first such session yesterday and I wanted to provide you with a video clip if the show so that you have a better feel about these sessions. Answers Junction Sesson One: Your Internet Marketing Quesitons 

I wanted to share another lesson with you from my recent trip to Vail, Colorado and what I have learned by looking inward and developing a clearer focus on my personal life vision. A few weeks ago I wrote a post on “manifesting your perfect life” and mentioned my intention to share other thoughts from what was a very reflective time for me. Today, we are going to talk about busting stories.

Bethenny Frankel has manifested the life of her greatest vision and truly has it all; a husband that loves her, a beautiful healthy child, good friends, a thriving career, mega-million dollar wealth, the respect of her peers and the admiration of her fans. All of this is true but Bethenny’s journey has not been easy and along the way she had to break a number of deep rooted stories formed over a lifetime of emotional abuse, parental cruelty and neglect.

I have followed Bethenny’s story as millions of others have by watching it all play out from her runner up status on Martha Stewart’s Apprentice, to the Real Housewives of New York, to Bethenny Gets Married, and continuing with Bethenny Ever-after. Sure, watching her story play-out has made for good television, yet the lessons are much bigger and provide the true value to be gleaned from the example she represents. Bethenny’s story serves as the perfect guide to what becomes possible when we decide to bust our stories.

The picture above is a thumbnail from the June 6, 2011 cover of Forbes Magazine which hit the news stands during my Vail visit and made for enlightened reading,  just a layer below the obvious.  After reading about the sale of her Skinnygirl Cocktails line to Jim Beam for a reported $120 million, I thought what a perfect reward and affirmation of Bethenny’s willingness to bust her stories and take control of her life vision.

Regardless of what you want to accomplish in your life; money, fame, respect, a happy family, a loving relationship, health, a fulfilling spiritual life, purpose, etc. You can accomplish it with the freedom of a clean slate and the best part is that you control it for yourself. No one gets to define you once you take back your power by embracing your past and then breaking the stories that no longer serve you or perhaps never did.

The 6 Steps to Busting Your Stories

• Acknowledge your past and recognize that everything that has occurred in your life both good and not so good has resulted in your arrival in this moment. Whenever I begin beating myself up about choices I have made, I remind myself that another choice may have landed me in the wrong place at the wrong time or limited the opportunities I have today. Embracing your past provides you with the ability to gain power from the experiences you are proud of, happy about, and all that has molded you.
•  Know Who You Are and refuse to let others define you. It is a flaw in human nature that we tend to judge people by their past and come to expect nothing more than what we have previously experienced. This can work against you by allowing others to control how you feel about yourself and what you will be able to accomplish in life. Make a clear decision to treat your past as prologue to your perfect future and be unapologetic when others become uncomfortable with your unwillingness to relive the old stories.
• Set a Perfect New Vision of what you want your life to be in reality. Once you become clear on what you want, you will know the right questions to ask in order to bring it into physical reality. Witness as the people, resources and situations emerge in your life to make your vision real. Everything you need to achieve your clearly formed vision will appear and the old stories and stumbling blocks of the past will simply not matter or fail to show up at all.
• Comfortably Hold Onto Your Vision as it begins to manifest in your life. The creation process will deliver results in your life more quickly based on your ability to comfortably hold your new vision and belief in the outcome you want. Despite of the challenges you face along your journey or sudden doubts that may appear, focus on your vision and maintain both an intellectual awareness and an emotional awareness of what you desire to achieve.
• Act on Your Vision by showing up and engage in the creation process of life when you recognize an opportunity to take another step toward your perfect vision. Bust the stories that do not apply, overcome doubt, break through self-limiting beliefs and recognize that you do not need to have all of the answers at once. The path to your perfect life will unfold before you when you focus on the bigger vision.
• Live in Gratitude for all you have experienced in your life, be thankful for what you have today and for the manifestations along your journey toward the life you have envisioned.

Ask Your Questions About Making Money Online

Throughout the week I communicate with dozens of new and guru caliber Internet marketers every week while managing my membership sites, hosting my podcast and building my own income programs. I have recognized a pattern that likely will not surprise you, many of the questions that come up in conversation are shared among many people – in other words many are searching for the same answers.

Four Steps to Manifesting Your Perfect Life

I just returned from a short working vacation in Vail, Colorado where I set my intention to clear space, create a vision to manifest the next phase of my life and businesses to move even closer to my purpose. This is a really important and valuable process that everyone who has the desire to make significant changes in their life should undertake. I marveled as each day brought new questions, answers and clarity as I now direct my energy toward actions which will bring about phenomenal results.

I will share more about my trip, what I learned, how this could impact your business and certainly how much of this will unfold through my podcast, video-cast, membership sites and blogs. My intention as always is to share what is working for me in order to help you achieve your online goals and enjoyment of a true Internet lifestyle.

The Internet lifestyle is about freedom in your choices of time, place and intentions. It empowers you to live more powerfully and in every interaction be a blessing to those you come into contact with in your daily life.

Today, I want to share with you a simple four step process that represents the core of where I have derived my power to manifest the results I am seeking. It is a simple formula, but the process of learning how to master it requires true intention and daily focus until it becomes your way of life.

The 4 Steps to Manifesting

• Decide – Make committed decisions in every aspect of your life. A good place to start is by asking yourself this simple question; “What do I want?” Decisions are based on your intentions which are very different from goals. Often times we see goals as wishes, a goal does not have the same emotional energy as an intention and therefore they often don’t lead to fulfillment.
• Ask – Once you have made a firm decision about what you want literally ask for it. Ask for what you want and be as specific as you can. The more specific you are about what you want the more vividly you place power behind your ask. Who are you asking? Whomever you view as your life-source based on your believe system – God, the universe, whatever your belief system provides will guide you to the answer to this question.  It is vitally important that your intentions be grounded to your values and source.
• Believe – This is where your faith provides a comfort in knowing that the people, resources, and circumstances required to manifest your stated intentions will be provided for you as needed. This is accompanied by a knowing or an emotional connection to the idea that what you have asked for will be realized based on your belief. It is important that you recognize your part which is taking action – you have to show up.
• Receive – The key to your receiving is directly related to your ability to hold onto the belief that you will receive the right response to your ask. This is both an intellectual and emotional state of mind and you must maintain your focus with the expectation of receiving. It is essential that you maintain a sincere sense of gratitude throughout the process of receiving. You must be grateful for what already have been given and maintain the feeling tone of gratitude every day.

This is just one small part of the process of manifesting your desires in your business and life. I have used this same process throughout my life to accomplish many of my stated intentions and as my understanding of this way of living has grown, I continue to push toward even bigger visions and larger ask.

I would encourage you to gain a deeper understanding of the universal laws that determine everything that shows up in your life. It is critical for you to understand that this process is in action in all of our lives involuntarily and as a result, your present mindset is already producing the results that show up for you everyday.

I don’t know about you but I have been getting tons of emails latelty pitching software designed to make what seems like unreal amounts of money selling ClickBank products on auto-pilot. When I say unreal I mean like $100,000 in 3 days non-sense … some more and some less.

Every one of these product offers come complete with screen shots offered as “proof” that the creator of the product has made an unreal amount of money selling ClickBank products and you can too … well maybe not.

Here is a great little video by my friend Tim Linden, owner of StartXchange, which completely pulls back the curtain and let’s you see for yourself how these self-styled gurus produce “proof” of such amazing results and like I said, you can too!

If you have decided that ClickBank is the right vehicle for you  to produce an online income be sure to take an approach that will produce results. Last November I conducted a little test of my 30 day guided coaching program designed to help participants make at least $1,000 in 30 days marketing ClickBank products. I know the thought of making $1,000 in 30 days pales by comparison to $100,000, but using my method you will actually put real money in your bank account.

It really isn’t that difficult to do the right thing – agreed? I was reading a blog post by my friend Jon Olson on ‘Hit Exchange News‘ titled “The Biggest Joke In Internet Marketing” and the topic is on product launches in the Internet Marketing industry. It is a very interesting topic and there certainly remains plenty of room for improvement among both large and small marketers in our niche.

For all of the finger pointing and thoughts about Internet marketing tactics, I would like to propose a simple little test to guide all marketers on how to serve their customers and a basis for their customers to evaluate marketers and launches.

Marketers: First Examine Your Motives

1. Do your motives originate from truth?

2. Do your motives foster fairness for everyone concerned?

3. Do your motives build value for your customers and associates?

Marketers: Second Examine Your Actions

1. Will your actions support a worthy long-term objectives?

2. Will your actions be responsible for harming another person?

3. Will your actions deliver value for your marketplace?

I have spent thousands of dollars over the years on my online education. I have purchased $7 reports and $2,000 courses and I can tell you that I have gotten considerable value from 95% of everything I have received. I have purchased from unknown marketers and gurus like Yanick Silver, Frank Kern, Russell Brunson, Eben Pagan, Mike Filsaime, Perry Belcher, and Ryan  Deiss. Again, I have received considerable vaule from 95% of these products.

So what is the secret?

I have added myself to the equation! Which is to say that I have actually unpackaged (or downloaded) and studied the material, I have tested and split-tested the recommendations. I have discarded what did not work for me and taken massive action on the strategies, tactics and advice that have yielded results. I have taken a long-term view on my business, not looking for overnight riches, but rather leaning skills and concepts to build a sustainable online business.

I write this post not to defend the “Guru Marketer,” there is plenty to criticize in the make money niche to be sure. But I will say that I think painting the most successful Internet marketers with a broad brush of conspiracy and shame is too easy to do and too often done without supporting facts. In the end this doesn’t serve anyone – especially the newbie online seeker for whom it is presumed to forewarn.

Website Magazine was partially responsible for inspiring a new movement in the traffic exchange industry after their publication on the topic of “Online Advertising Exchanges” in their February 2011 issue of the magazine.  In a story written by Peter Prestipino, Editor In Chief titled “Advertsing Exchanges – The New Digital Ad Marketplace,” Mr. Prestipino explores the upper end advertising exchange model and you do not have to streach too far to see the connection between these platforms and traffic exchanges.

The fact that the premiere US website developers publication could dedicate an entire issue to ad exchanges without mention  of traffic exchanges was troubling to more than one exchange owner and this in part inspired the formation of the Traffic Exchange Summit. The basic format for these sessions will be an overview of what ad exchanges are (traffic exchanges, safelist, and text ad exchanges), followed by a presentation focused on specific strategies on how to use exchanges effectively. The objective is offer those who are brand new to exchanges as well as experienced exchange marketers a mastermind on how to maximize conversions and overall effectiveness of exchanges.

Participants will also have an opportunity to benefit from special promotional codes for advertising and special discounted memberships to the exchanges that are supporting this program through the traffic exchange summit. This an educational outreach effort that will evolve over time.
