<p><em>1. Logout of Facebook.</em></p>
<p><em>2. Now that you’re logged out, you’ve got to clear cookies. The browser breakdown is below.</em></p>
<p><em>—If you’re on Firefox: Go to “Tools” in the top nav and select “Clear Recent History” from the list. A pop-up window will come up, now select “Cookies” and hit clear.</em></p>
<p><em>—If you’re on Chrome: Go to “Chrome” in the top nav and select “Clear Recent History” from the list. A pop-up window will come up, now select “Cookies” and clear them.</em></p>
<p><em>—If you’re on Safari: Go to “Safari” in the top nav and select “Reset Safari” from the list. A pop-up window will come up, now select “Cookies” and clear them.</em></p>
<p><em>—If you’re on Internet Explorer: Go to “Tools” in the right sidebar and select “Delete Browsing History” from the list. A pop-up window will come up, now select “Cookies” and clear them.</em></p>
<p><em>3. Once your cookies are cleared, you need to be sure to not click a “Like,” “Share” or “Connect” — really, anything related to Facebook — until you want to be logged back in. If you do this, you’ll be good to go!</em></p>
<p><em>Another easy solution is to always use a separate internet browser for Facebook. This can be tough though because saving passwords, auto-filling forms, etc. make using two browsers difficult. It’s up to you however, as it’s you that Facebook is watching!</em></p>

<p><div>According to a follow up post titled<a title="Logging out of Facebook is not enough" href="http://nikcub.appspot.com/logging-out-of-facebook-is-not-enough" target="_blank"> Logging out of Facebook is not enough</a>&#8230; Important Update, Mr. Cubrilovic reports that Facebook has resolved the problem as explained in great detail in his article.</div>

<p><div>My advice is that you should use an abundance of caution if this is a sensitive issue for you. Please keep in mind that Facebook is likely not the only web-based service that may be doing this and the advice offered by <strong>Global Grind</strong> would ensure that web-cookies are not collecting data on your activities without your knowledge and consent.</div>
</p>
<p><div>As with any use of the Internet where your privacy is placed at risk, be smart, use the allowable privacy settings at every site you use and as stated an abundance of caution is always the best approach to ensure that the web is a safe and enjoyable place for you to engage with others and fulfill your objectives online.</div>

<p>2. Just do it &#8230; don&#8217;t wait for someone to tell you &#8220;how to use social media &#8211; be authentic.</p>
<p>3. Invite others to the conversation and don&#8217;t just focus on yourself.</p>
<p>4. Recognize that your customers and followers control the message, so care about your followers and listen.</p>
<p>5. Live in the communities that care about what you love and talk about it &#8211; everyday!</p>

New industries have emerged and old business models have been given new life as the world has become a much smaller place. Regardless if you chose to engage with your market with social media or chose to ignore it, I would encourage you to actually decide, make a conscious decision either way. Social media is not a fad, it is not trivial, and it is not going away - it is actually just in its infancy. 		<description><![CDATA[Assuming you read my first post on the topic of Facebook fan pages, you likely have a good idea of why you should establish a fan page for your business. Now that you have decided to take action, we need to explore the "why" behind your fan page by answering a simple question - What do you want to accomplish with your Facebook page?

Yet the answer is more complex than the question. Ultimately you likely want to use your Facebook page to make more money and grow your business. But there are many ways to accomplish that and many directions to take. Perhaps a better question is, “How do you want to use your Facebook page to grow your business?” Do you want to build your brand, grow a list, or network with others in your niche, etc.

<p>Assuming you read my first post on the topic of <a title="Facebook Fan Pages Part One: Do you Need a Facebook fan Page?" href="http://askjamesholmes.com/facebook-fan-pages-part-one-do-you-need-a-facebook-fan-page" target="_blank">Facebook fan pages</a>, you likely have a good idea of why you should establish a fan page for your business. Now that you have decided to take action, we need to explore the &#8220;why&#8221; behind your fan page by answering a simple question - What do you want to accomplish with your Facebook page?</p>
<p>Yet the answer is more complex than the question. Ultimately you likely want to use your Facebook page to make more money and grow your business. But there are many ways to accomplish that and many directions to take. Perhaps a better question is, “How do you want to use your Facebook page to grow your business?” Do you want to build your brand, grow a list, or network with others in your niche, etc.</p>
<p>Don’t worry, you’re not expected to know the answer right now. However, before you begin creating your fan page it’s important to have a clear direction and measurable objectives.</p>
<p>As mentioned in <a title="Do you need a Facebook fan page" href="http://askjamesholmes.com/facebook-fan-pages-part-one-do-you-need-a-facebook-fan-page">part one</a> there are several outcome to be accomplished using a Facebook fan page. Here is a summary for recap:</p>

<li>Traffic generation</li>
<li>List building</li>
<li>Selling products/services</li>
<li>Announcements and promotions</li>
<li>Content and added value</li>
<li>Building a community/strengthening relationship</li>
<li>Impact on search engine optimization</li>
</ul>
<p>Do you need documented evidence that Facebook fan pages work? According to a survey by Syncapse.com 4,000 people who “Liked” the top 20 brands with Facebook pages spend an average of $71.84 more each year on that brand’s products or services. There is a loyalty factor and awareness factor that come into play here and the proof is very compelling.</p>
<p><strong>Would this story inspire you to take action?</strong></p>
<p>Let&#8217;s say you created a Facebook fan page and discovered that your target market is strongly represented on Facebook. the good news is that you went all out and design a great page,  you created a custom Facebook page that offered tremendous value, promotions, news and interactive tools and applications for customers. You also made it easy for your market to interact leveraging a Q&amp;A page and a page where Facebook fans could learn about your products and services &#8211; they can even purchase directly from your page. You have thought of everything!</p>
<p>When a fan makes a purchase they also tended to post a note on their profile about the great new product they purchased from you &#8211; building your brand. Suddenly you realize that by leveraging Facebook you have gained more fans and in a short period of time have grown your sales by 20% &#8211; would this be a great outcome for you?</p>
<p>This can be your story, you can enjoy this type of result by taking action and executing on a well thought out plan, the one I will be sharing with you here. The example I gave you used sales growth as the benchmark, but this could have been related to building a list, growing your brand presence. Regardless of how you measure your success, developing a Facebook fan page is just one piece of the puzzle that can help you get there.</p>

I also gained alot from my personal interactions with Perry Belcher - I interviewed him for my Internet Business Blueprint podcast on the eve of his final product launch with Ryan Diess in 2009. During the lead up to that program, I had a couple of great telephone conversations with Perry from which I gleaned several golden nuggets on marketing and social media. The lessons from those conversations contained principles that I still teach today.

<p>Perry&#8217;s exit from the scene was pretty swift and I am not sure if I took the time back then to let him know how much he helped me. His impact is still evident in my business and I wanted to take a moment to say thank you, to put that sentiment out into the universe and vow to pay it forward.</p>
<p><strong>Perry Belcher</strong>, retire in peace (R.I.P.) and may you have success in the next chapter of your journey. One of the things I like most about Perry is that he was always open and honest about his mistakes, shortcomings, and limitations. As confident and powerful as he is, he is also aware that like all of us, he is a flawed human being. I know that I am and so the same may be said for you. It really doesn&#8217;t matter as long as you strive to become better, add value for other people, and leave your mark on the world in a meaningful way.</p>
<p>In retrospect, I not only learned allot from Perry about business, I also learned about life and how to confront it head on. So by sharing this interview I hope that you will gain by one or two golden nuggets that will help you to breakthrough to a higer level of achievement.</p>
