Hold Your Vision and Manifest Your Dreams

Back in June I enjoyed a short working vacation in Vail, Colorado a place I have visited regularly since 1981. My trip resulted in an amazing period of reflection, personal growth and many lessons which I have shared here in two earlier post. The first dealt with manifesting your perfect life and that was followed by thoughts on embracing your personal stories to break through events of the past that may have created self-limiting beliefs in your life.

Today, I want to share my understanding of another concept which may in fact be the key to obtaining the life of our dreams. The topic is holding onto the vision of what we really want in our lives. It is one thing to sit down with your journal and write out a set of goals or better yet a life plan, it is quite another matter to hold onto your vision against obstacles and setbacks.

I remember sitting next to the raging Gore Creek with it’s banks overflowing from the Spring runoff as the water moved swiftly toward the Colorado River to fulfill it’s purpose as a tributary to the great Colorado. When I looked downstream I could see many obstacles in the path of the flowing creek; boulders, fallen trees, foliage and I thought of these as an analogy of the obstacles we face in pursuit of our vision or purpose. I watched as the water found its way over, under and around every obstacle and challenge with a clear purpose to flow eventually into the Colorado River. We must maintain the same focus and determination to achieve our greater vision life vision and purpose.

10 actions you can take to achieve vision and purpose in your business and life.

01. Set your vision based on “your why“ as your why will anchor you during choppy waters and give your vision real purpose.

02. Allow yourself to DREAM BIG regardless of where you are today, build your vision based on where you want to be.

03. Believe in the power of attraction and draw unto yourself the people, opportunities, and resources needed to manifest your vision.

04. Adopt a mindset that by default says yes to the opportunities, possibilities, and people who can help you achieve your vision.

05. Adopt this success formula: Preparation + Opportunity = Success

06. Don’t expect something for nothing… life rarely works that way.

07. Don’t sell yourself short… invest the time and money in the training and resources needed to achieve your goals.

08. Take massive action and as you develop action oriented habits they will become perpetual and second nature in your life.

09. Become comfortable when holding your vision… breakthrough all fears that arises along your journey toward achievement.

10. Recognize that you will be stepping outside of your comfort zone… you may be entering new territory, so maintain your focus.

Things Get a Little Messy When the Stones Come Back at You

The pot has been boiling for months, you know the story, school yard bully throwing stones and tossing insults to other kids on the playground that is the worldwide web. Let me be clear, all of the players in this little dust-up are people I consider friends so with that said… what boiled to the surface has been in the soup for a while and many on the sidelines know it even if they would never say it.

If you run a Google search of recent comments I’ve posted on many traffic exchange related blogs you will discover that I am an advocate of letting people run their own businesses and furthermore recognizing that there are many ways to do so successfully. Social surfing vs old school non-social surfing, social sites vs non-social sites, owner provided customer support vs staff provided customer support, script A vs script B… nanner, nanner, nanner… how about try to make a few pennies a day vs why not a few hundred, building a chat presence vs building a list, and it goes on and on and on and on! The truth is that there are many examples of successful sites and online business owners representative of each of these models and many more.

The truth is there has been a fair amount of “bullying” going on in conference rooms and on blogs over the past few months and the people being kicked around have many successes to their credit, they are proven leaders have thousands of customers and loyal followers. This post is not written to plead their case, feel sorry for them, or start picking sides… it’s not my style. I am merely an observer like most of you with an opinion that I am not afraid to express.

Sooner or later every bully get’s exposed on the play ground it’s an unwritten law of the universe. When it happens you recognize it immediately, like that famous scene from the movie “A Christmas Story” when Ralphie finally decides he has had enough. There is allot of sensitivity to school yard bullying these days so I hope you can appreciate my humor in sharing this video clip before I share my points.

I hope you are laughing or I will never again attempt humor!

Now that you have had a little laugh you can appreciate what I have to say in all seriousness because it is a serious subject.

People who live in glass houses should never throw stones… that is not new and deep down inside we know this is great advice. The lesson becomes all too real and may even hurt when we realize that everyone of us lives in a glass house… yep all of us.

The next time you or I declare that we have the authority to decide what is the right way or the wrong way to run a business or assume the authority to elevate saints and cast out demons, we must recognize that we are serving no one and ultimately dis-serving ourselves. Remember the bully always get’s exposed in the end!

I recently spent a great evening at my high school reunion (never mind which year) and the bullies were no where to be found… seriously, they were no where! Bullies spend four years ruling their universe and making others lives miserable and then simply fade away. It is the nerds, the geeks, the respectful ones, the goody two shoes that grow up to be Bill Gates or Meg Whitman, Ghandi or Mother Teresa, the mentor or the teacher. They live rich lives… get all of the pretty girls and handsome guys… and rule their universe for a lifetime. Something to think about!

So I encourage you when given the choice to respect the freewill of others, to honor diversity that is the essence of community, to celebrate individuality, or to criticize others, make broad and damning statements, or cast other stones… chose the high road, the one that provides value for others and is grounded in truth.

If you are a regular reader of my blog you may have seen prior post and videos I have shared featuring Sir Richard Branson. I am a great admirer of his entrepreneurial spirit and his accomplishments as the original Maverick Entrepreneur.

Richard Branson started from nothing and since his late teens has taken the risk and made necessary sacrifices to emerge as one of the most innovative and wealthy self starters of all time. He has become a billionaire as a result of hard work coupled with creativity and a flare that has made him very popular and love around the world. Along the way he has given away millions and helped thousands of people better their lives. Richard Branson’s causes are as big as his vision and imagination including ending poverty, saving the environment, furthering space exploration, and much more.

His home will be rebuilt and according to Mr. Branson… even better than before. The true loss was the journals, photographs, and other irreplaceable documents which chronicled the career that has spanned many decades, cultures, and industries. By God’s grace no one was injured and for that all of us as human beings can collectively extend our gratitude to everyone involved. I wanted to pause for a moment and share a few thoughts to consider.

Learn to Embrace and Bust Your Personal Stories

I wanted to share another lesson with you from my recent trip to Vail, Colorado and what I have learned by looking inward and developing a clearer focus on my personal life vision. A few weeks ago I wrote a post on “manifesting your perfect life” and mentioned my intention to share other thoughts from what was a very reflective time for me. Today, we are going to talk about busting stories.

Bethenny Frankel has manifested the life of her greatest vision and truly has it all; a husband that loves her, a beautiful healthy child, good friends, a thriving career, mega-million dollar wealth, the respect of her peers and the admiration of her fans. All of this is true but Bethenny’s journey has not been easy and along the way she had to break a number of deep rooted stories formed over a lifetime of emotional abuse, parental cruelty and neglect.

I have followed Bethenny’s story as millions of others have by watching it all play out from her runner up status on Martha Stewart’s Apprentice, to the Real Housewives of New York, to Bethenny Gets Married, and continuing with Bethenny Ever-after. Sure, watching her story play-out has made for good television, yet the lessons are much bigger and provide the true value to be gleaned from the example she represents. Bethenny’s story serves as the perfect guide to what becomes possible when we decide to bust our stories.

The picture above is a thumbnail from the June 6, 2011 cover of Forbes Magazine which hit the news stands during my Vail visit and made for enlightened reading, just a layer below the obvious. After reading about the sale of her Skinnygirl Cocktails line to Jim Beam for a reported $120 million, I thought what a perfect reward and affirmation of Bethenny’s willingness to bust her stories and take control of her life vision.

Regardless of what you want to accomplish in your life; money, fame, respect, a happy family, a loving relationship, health, a fulfilling spiritual life, purpose, etc. You can accomplish it with the freedom of a clean slate and the best part is that you control it for yourself. No one gets to define you once you take back your power by embracing your past and then breaking the stories that no longer serve you or perhaps never did.

The 6 Steps to Busting Your Stories

Acknowledge your past and recognize that everything that has occurred in your life both good and not so good has resulted in your arrival in this moment. Whenever I begin beating myself up about choices I have made, I remind myself that another choice may have landed me in the wrong place at the wrong time or limited the opportunities I have today. Embracing your past provides you with the ability to gain power from the experiences you are proud of, happy about, and all that has molded you.
Know Who You Are and refuse to let others define you. It is a flaw in human nature that we tend to judge people by their past and come to expect nothing more than what we have previously experienced. This can work against you by allowing others to control how you feel about yourself and what you will be able to accomplish in life. Make a clear decision to treat your past as prologue to your perfect future and be unapologetic when others become uncomfortable with your unwillingness to relive the old stories.
Set a Perfect New Vision of what you want your life to be in reality. Once you become clear on what you want, you will know the right questions to ask in order to bring it into physical reality. Witness as the people, resources and situations emerge in your life to make your vision real. Everything you need to achieve your clearly formed vision will appear and the old stories and stumbling blocks of the past will simply not matter or fail to show up at all.
Comfortably Hold Onto Your Vision as it begins to manifest in your life. The creation process will deliver results in your life more quickly based on your ability to comfortably hold your new vision and belief in the outcome you want. Despite of the challenges you face along your journey or sudden doubts that may appear, focus on your vision and maintain both an intellectual awareness and an emotional awareness of what you desire to achieve.
Act on Your Vision by showing up and engage in the creation process of life when you recognize an opportunity to take another step toward your perfect vision. Bust the stories that do not apply, overcome doubt, break through self-limiting beliefs and recognize that you do not need to have all of the answers at once. The path to your perfect life will unfold before you when you focus on the bigger vision.
Live in Gratitude for all you have experienced in your life, be thankful for what you have today and for the manifestations along your journey toward the life you have envisioned.

How to Manage Your Internet Marketing Business and Balance Your Life

I am notorious for killing the viral email progress of any message that comes to my in box with the request to pass it on … I wont and in fact, I usually won’t even read the email. Just ask my sisters – they will both be nodding their heads!

Well there are exceptions to every rule and I wanted to share on with you. Connie Clark a dear friend and business associate sent me a very beautiful email tonight and for some odd reason I chose to read it although it is one of those pass it on types… oh well, glad I did.

The Internet can become all consuming especially for someone like me who absolutely loves it. The problem is that it is so easy to get drawn in and let the hours, days, and weeks roll by and before you know it your family doesn’t recognize you, your friends stop inviting you to lunch, and you are living completely out of balance… not good.

So, when this message crossed my in-box shortly after having a related conversation with another dear friend, I began to wonder if you face the same life balance challenges and if so, would you be as blessed by this simple yet powerful message similar to how it impacted me? I figured there was only one way to find out… share it with you.

So I dedicate this to my friends Connie Clark and Jason Stephens in the hope that it blessed you as well.

An Angel says, ‘Never borrow from the future. If you worry about what may happen tomorrow and it doesn’t happen, you have worried in vain. Even if it does happen, you have to worry twice.’

1. Pray

2. Go to bed on time.

3. Get up on time so you can start the day unrushed.

4. Say No to projects that won’t fit into your time schedule, or that will compromise your mental health.

5. Delegate tasks to capable others.

6. Simplify and unclutter your life.

7. Less is more. ( Although one is often not enough, two are often too many.)

8. Allow extra time to do things and to get to places.

9. Pace yourself. Spread out big changes and difficult projects over time; don’t lump the hard things all together.

10. Take one day at a time.

11. Separate worries from concerns. If a situation is a concern, find out what God would have you do and let go of the anxiety. If you can’t do anything about a situation, forget it.

12. Live within your budget; don’t use credit cards for ordinary purchases.

13.. Have backups; an extra car key in your wallet, an extra house key buried in the garden, extra stamps, etc.

14. K.M.S. (Keep Mouth Shut). This single piece of advice can prevent an enormous amount of trouble.

15. Do something for the Kid in You everyday.

16. Carry a spiritually enlightening book with you to read while waiting in line.

17. Get enough rest.

18. Eat right.

19. Get organized so everything has its place.

20. Listen to a tape while driving that can help improve your quality of life..

21. Write down thoughts and inspirations.

22. Every day, find time to be alone.

23. Having problems? Talk to God on the spot. Try to nip small problems in the bud. Don’t wait until it’s time to go to bed to try and pray.

24. Make friends with Godly people.

25.. Keep a folder of favorite scriptures on hand.

26. Remember that the shortest bridge between despair and hope is often a good ‘Thank you Jesus .’

27. Laugh.

28. Laugh some more!

29. Take your work seriously, but not yourself at all.

30. Develop a forgiving attitude (most people are doing the best they can).

31. Be kind to unkind people (they probably need it the most).

32. Sit on your ego.

33 Talk less; listen more.

34. Slow down.

35. Remind yourself that you are not the general manager of the universe.

36 Every night before bed, think of one thing you’re grateful for that you’ve never been grateful for before.

Never Forgotten

I couldn’t have imagined 24 hours ago how much of my day would be spent deeply contemplating how much the world has changed since 9/11 and rightful and permanent mark those events have left on our country. I started the day reaching out to a friend that had lost family members on the plane which struck the Pentagon, I just wanted to let her know that I was thinking about her on this day. I also thought of a friend who is taking a final reenlistment exam today of all days for the Colorado Air National Guard, so I called him, wished him luck, and thanked him for his willingness to serve our country again.

I reflected on all of this as I prepared for my daily podcast and the program took on a very different direction, less about how to build a successful business and more about how to value and invest our precious time. I thought about so many who had their futures taken away and how blessed we are to have another day to make a difference in the world. I talked about getting clear on your purpose, setting your objectives down on paper, attracting the resources you need to fulfill your plan, adopting daily disciplines, measuring results, making adjustments, and persevering until the objective has been met. So much as a result thinking of the precious lives that were lost.

As I made the rounds on Twitter and Facebook, I realized that so many of my friends where also thinking deeply about the eighth anniversary of that very sad day. I read an amazing peace on Mashable titled “Remembering 9/11 Through Social Media” and this excellent blog post caused me to think about what it would have been like to have Twitter on that day. I think of all of the “heard it first on Twitter” moments I have experienced the last few months, from the death of Michael Jackson to events of the Presidential election, Twitter often trumped the mainstream news media. I often know exactly what my friends are doing at any given moment in real time. In some ways I have to say I am glad Twitter wasn’t an option, but then I think about the families of those lost and perhaps an opportunity for the victims to send a quick note to their loved ones.

I guess the great lesson for me on reflection of today centers on the truth that we can best honor the memories of those lost, by living our lives in such a way to cherish every moment, strive to be the best people we can be and seek to serve to improve the loves of others as servant leaders. My heart goes out to those who lost a loved one on 9/11 and I honor their collective legacy by vowing to cherish my precious time and a hope for the future that was taken away from each person lost.
