A members forum allows you to build a tribe while helping others succeed online

Internet Entrepreneurs Forum was conceived as a project in the summer of 2010 and was inspired by Tissa Godavitarne‘s ACME People Search Forum which is masterfully utilized. I like the way Tissa uses his forum to build community through the forum by using it as a place where his members provide support for each other across their entire platform… this is very powerful and incredibly effective.  My vision is much the same as Tissa’s and because of this I am content with the steady and progressive growth of the forum based on the needs of the members.

Internet Entrepreneurs Forum is site #5 as I felt this would be a great site to complete as part of my 30 sites in 30 days November Big Harry Audacious Goal (BHAG), which has been detailed in prior posts on my blog.

The forum is built on the PhpBB script which is a free script and widely used by forum developers in a variety of niches. The script is very feature rich although it is not the most advanced option available. The administration area is easy to learn and manage, which is a real plus if you are in anyway technically challanged. I did add one additional script to provide an advertising function allowing me to install banner ads and other images to any section of forum I choose including individual post or specific groups within the forum.

I set up the initial sections of the forum under two main categories, community and forum (main) with several sub-categories. This is just the start and the categories and sub-categories will expand organically as the forum community grows.

The project plan was very straight forward and here is a checklist of the task completed in this project:

1. Secured the domain and set-up the C panel account on my server.

2. Download and install the PhpBB script here and manually installed.

3. Located and installed the banner rotator php script.

4. Contracted out the graphics and installed.

5. Set-up administrative permissions and preferences.

6. Set-up initial categories and topics.

7. Installed initial ad codes in HTML.

How am I monetizing the site?

This forum will be monetized using affiliate programs promoted with banner ads. Once the forum membership reaches my established benchmarks for traffic and membership size, banner advertising will be sold on a selective basis. In addition, I will post reviews of products and develop special offers for the members and offer the members who own products and programs to offer similar discounts to our members. Direct promotional programs like this will be restricted to a predetermined categories of the forum as not to violate the ‘anti-spamming’ policies I have established on the forum.

This will be my first foray into forum ownership and I have been told that forums are difficult to start and I accept that… most good things in life are often difficult to obtain, so I am ready to patiently invest both time and energy to accomplish my objectives.

SEO Videos Free contains a searchable library of more than 7,000 titles

The third and final site in the SEO Experts Pro group is SEO Videos Free and it represents site #4 in my 30 sites in 30 days November Big Harry Audacious Goal (BHAG), which has been detailed in prior posts on my blog. This site represents an acquisition opportunity that came along at the perfect time and was the missing piece of the puzzle.

Video is big and many people including me prefer learning through video instruction, so it is always a good idea to include video as a key component to any website project that you develop.  I decided to add video to the the SEO Experts Pro project first by adding video to the SEO Experts Pro blog, which I did and then decided to go a step further by putting together a sister sister which became SEO Free Videos.

I explored building a WordPress based site, a PHP based site, and contracting a programmer to create a site for me. I finally decided to acquire a site through an online auction from a programmer who has extensive experience building video “how to” sites and it was a great decision.

This one was simple as the site was delivered complete and only required that I transfer the files to my hosting account and the domain name to my domain host. The majority of the work to connect the site to the other sites in this group relied on the blog and the social media profiles at Facebook and Twitter.

I created the Internet Business Blueprint to teach others how to create sales funnels and front-end offers that provides extreme value, build your list, and allows you to accomplish your specific major purpose for establishing a business online. The amount of work that you will want to do when selling or giving away private label products or master resell rights products (MRR) depends on your purpose and what you wish to accomplish within your purpose. I have covered the gambit from heavily editing the content and revising the graphics to simply editing the sales or opt-in page as is the case here.

What’s Up with Rosalind Gardner and Ewen Chia?

I thought perhaps it was April 1st … “April Fools Day” because two of the marketers I respect most in the affiliate marketing arena where engaged in a very public dispute complete with some harmful comments from Rosalind Gardner attacking a respected fellow “Super Affiliate” Ewen Chia in a public forum (Rosalind’s blog).  I love Rosalind Gardner, I have read her book “Super Affiliate Handbook” and have recommended it as an affiliate, I still do. But, I have to admit that this one took me buy surprise because Ewen Chia was unfairly blind-sided in an unprofessional way.

 

 

We could have a long debate about auto-blogging, track-backs, blog commenting for links and many widely accepted white, gray, and black hat traffic methods. The truth is that the Internet is still the wild frontier and for as many experts that would cry fowl, you can find another with perfectly legitimate reasons for why these methods are acceptable. It is kind of like trying to tell someone “how to use social media” the correct way, no such thing exist. Now I could make some obvious recommendation of things you shouldn’t do, but fundamentally social media is an open forum and still in it’s infancy, so you get my point.

I have included the key information and links to both Rosalind’s and Ewen’s blog for you to decide for yourself the merits of this little dispute. What I wanted to comment on is a trend that I am seeing in many niches online. The arguments are not related to products or programs but rather exist among accepted “gurus” of which Rosalind and Ewen both qualify, suddenly feeling the need to assign right or wrong to the practice of Internet marketing, traffic generation, and SEO among others. The troubling part about this trend is the personal attacks.

 

 

The dynamics are in constant flux, what worked yesteday may not work tomorrow, a few big name marketers have abandoned the Internet niche in a shift to local business consulting, etc. There is a tremendous amount of change and quite frankly some nervous people. Perhpas this to shall pass, but in the meantime I hope that this serves as the low watermark and we can all get back to serving our markets in the way we believe adds the most value and fulfills our individual model at the same time.

I understand from reading Rosalind’s follow-up post that she has retracted her comments and personally apologized to Ewen Chia, which I applaud her for as it was the right thing to do. I did not want this to pass you my readers without drawing out the lessons here. It is a true teaching moment as there are topics for public comment and those best made in private. One truth about the Intenet that will likely never change, once you put something out on the web, it is almost impossible to take it back. Information travels too far and too fast for the deletion of content to wipe the slate clean.

I truly do admire and respect both Rosalind Gardner and Ewen Chia and I wish them both continued success and trust that we are all a little smarter from this episode. I would love to read your comments and would encourage you to read both the original post and apology to develop an informed opinion. A top ten list of internet marketers is always subjective and I am certain you will have a name or two to add to my list. 07. Bill McRea – Automated software is the latest frontier for online marketers. Many of the methods that marketers have used in the past 3 to 5 years are no longer effective and the leveraging points using website traffic and automation software has become the tipping point. Bill is at the leading edge of the next big opportunity online and therefore worthy of inclusion on my list.

Ryan Deiss – I have purchased more than half a dozen products from Ryan Deiss over the past couple of years and I highly recommend his products because they provide practical, no-nonsense tips, and resource recommendations to create sustainable income online. 09. Mike G (Glaspie) – I recently met Mike G although I have been aware of him from my earliest days online. 10. Russell Brunson – Russell Brunson briefly disappeared from my top 10 list in 2010 as it seemed the team the Dot Com Secrets and Second Tier team where revising there platform. I noticed that Russell removed some of the dated products from the market and even sold off his popular forum site. I recently reviewed the new platform as an affiliate saw a glimpse of what is on the agenda in the months ahead. I don’t think all of their systems are set to promote, but I would keep an eye on this as a very solid affiliate program to add to your funnel. For now, I would suggest taking a tour and opting into their training and take action on what you learn.
